This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) applies to CivicsExam.com and CivicsPrep Pro (together, the “Service”), available at https://www.civicsexam.com. By creating an account or using the Service, you acknowledge this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
We collect only the data needed to operate the Service:
Account identity. When you sign up or sign in, our authentication provider (Clerk) processes identifiers such as your email address, name (if provided), and authentication credentials or tokens. We use this identity to create and secure your account.
Study activity and preferences. We store your selected U.S. state (for state-specific civics answers), progress, quiz/flashcard history, and related study preferences in our database (Firebase / Google Firestore) so we can show progress tracking and personalized study features.
Payment and Pro access status. Pro features are unlocked through a one-time payment processed by Stripe (lifetime Pro access — not a recurring subscription). We store Pro / payment status associated with your account so we can unlock paid features. Stripe handles card details; we do not store full payment card numbers on our servers.
AI feature inputs (Pro). If you use optional Pro AI study aids (such as explanations or mnemonics), the prompts and related content needed to generate those aids are sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) to produce the response.
Technical and usage data. Like most websites, our hosting and infrastructure providers (including Vercel) may automatically process technical data such as IP address, device/browser type, and request logs needed to deliver and secure the Service.
We use the information above to: create and authenticate accounts; provide progress tracking, state-specific content, and Pro features; process one-time Pro payments and record access status; operate optional AI study aids; maintain, secure, and improve the Service; respond to support and account-deletion requests; and comply with applicable law. We do not use your personal information for purposes that are incompatible with operating this educational study tool.
Authentication, payments, AI features, data storage, and hosting rely on third-party providers that process data under their own terms and privacy policies:
Clerk — authentication and account identity.
Stripe — payment processing for one-time Pro checkout and related payment status.
OpenAI — generation of optional Pro AI study aids.
Firebase / Google — Firestore database for study activity, preferences, and Pro status.
Vercel — application hosting and related infrastructure.
These providers act as processors or service providers for the functions described above. Their handling of data is also governed by their respective policies.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties for their own independent marketing. We share data with the processors listed above only as needed to operate the Service.
We retain account identity, study activity, preferences, and Pro / payment status for as long as your account remains active and as needed to provide the Service, resolve disputes, enforce our Terms of Service, and meet legal obligations. If you request account deletion, we will delete or de-identify personal data associated with your account within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited records (for example, payment records) as required by law or legitimate business needs such as fraud prevention or accounting.
You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data by emailing us at admin@civicspreppro.com. Please use the email address associated with your account so we can verify the request. We will confirm when deletion has been completed, subject to the limited retention described above.
The Service uses cookies, local storage, and similar technologies as needed for authentication sessions (via Clerk), keeping you signed in, remembering preferences, and operating core site features. These are primarily functional and security-related rather than advertising trackers. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may prevent sign-in or other features from working correctly.
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us at admin@civicspreppro.comand we will take steps to delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
