Interview Checklist

Print this and check items off the night before your USCIS naturalization (N-400) interview. Bring the originals where possible. Requirements vary by case — your appointment notice lists anything specific USCIS wants you to bring.

Always bring

Your interview appointment notice (Form I-797C)

Your Permanent Resident Card (green card)

A state-issued ID or driver’s license

Any current and expired passports and travel documents issued during your statutory period (5 or 3 years)

Your Form N-400 confirmation/receipt and a copy of your application

If it applies to you

Marriage certificate and proof of your spouse’s U.S. citizenship (3-year/marriage cases)

Divorce decrees or death certificates ending any prior marriages (yours or your spouse’s)

Certified court dispositions for any arrest, citation, or charge — even if dismissed

Tax returns or IRS tax transcripts for the relevant years, if requested

Proof of Selective Service registration (most males who lived in the U.S. ages 18–26)

Documentation for any children listed on your application

Form N-648 medical certification, if you are requesting a disability exception

Be ready to demonstrate

The civics test — up to 10 of the 128 questions (study all of them in advance)

English reading, writing, and speaking ability

Familiarity with every answer on your own N-400 (the officer reviews it with you)
